When a disgruntled music journalist accuses a global pop star of queerbaiting, the singer’s devoted fans descend on his remote cabin to seek retribution.

In 2012, The Hollywood Reporter asked Wendy Williams about the difference in approaching a visual medium like television versus a radio show, to which she answered: “Being on TV in front of people is a lot different than sitting in a dark room with a microphone. When I had my radio show, I was on four hours a day for 20-something years. If you put a live microphone in front of Mother Teresa for that amount of time, she’d piss somebody off.”

RAT! is a horror-comedy short film about that very idea, that the more we make ourselves visible, the more inescapable our flaws and contradictions become, and the harder of a target we scrawl on our own backs. Tapping into my deep-seated fear of the internet as the first generation to grow up with our lives memorialized in poorly worded Tweets, oversaturated Instagrams, obnoxiously blunt Facebook posts and so much more, RAT! is a home invasion movie about your digital footprint tracing a bold-faced arrowhead back to your front door step.

RAT! also tackles self-perception, social envy and parasocial relationships within both online fandom and the queer community. To put it more bluntly, it's a movie about how mean gay men are to each other on the internet. Repulsion and vindictiveness are a razor thin line away from kinship and desire, and sometimes they occupy the same space altogether. Do I hate you? Or do I hate you because I want to be you?

By blending real-life anecdotes of doxxing and the scariest, silliest attributes of our favorite horror films, our chief goal with RAT! is to entertain and make audiences reassess their participation in the internet altogether.
