Throughout my adult life, I’ve always been a renter, and I’ve dealt with all kinds of issues in order to find affordable housing, ranging from minor inconveniences to serious hazards. I’ve lived in houses with bug infestations and fire safety violations. I’ve dealt with landlords that are unresponsive at best and predatory at worst. And in each case, I’ve suffered through it because it seemed like there was no alternative: No matter how bad conditions were, I always lowered my standards to meet them simply because it was so difficult to find something better.

HALFWAY HAUNTED channels those feelings of frustration and helplessness. I believe housing is a human right, yet it’s becoming more and more difficult to obtain because a privileged few want to grow their already-sizable wealth. It’s a situation that scares me much more than any ghost story. So I’m making a movie about precisely that.
