When something inhuman follows her home through the woods, Vera Landen calls the only voice she can reach — a late night radio host who decides her terror makes better entertainment than emergency.

The creature in Above the Trees is real, but it isn't the monster in the woods, it's the radio host Bobby Burns.

I wanted to create this film to feel like a story recovered instead of one produced, leaving bits and pieces to put together as a viewer. Using the radio as a framing device was always the goal to accomplish this atmosphere as well as a means for us to question the story of Vera and those who are telling these stories in the first place.

Shooting with essentially no-budget with a small crew in small towns in Iowa and Kansas, restraint became a primary tool in the storytelling process for us. What we don't see, we imagine, and our imagination is always more horrifying than anything we can see on the big screen.

Above the Trees is my first film and I plan to make many more going forward in similar tones and storytelling techniques.
